Privacy Policy

Solo Discount is a Shopify app built by Alterne LLC. It enforces a simple rule at checkout — one discount per cart line, not two — and runs entirely inside Shopify Functions. Because of that design, Solo Discount needs very little data from the stores it serves. This policy describes exactly what we collect, why, where it lives, and the rights you have over it.

Who we are

What we collect

We collect only what’s required to operate the app and keep your account in good standing:

• Shop metadata — your Shopify shop domain, shop ID, primary contact email, country, and currency, as provided by Shopify’s OAuth handshake on install.
• App configuration — the discounts you create in Solo Discount (name, strategy, scope, schedule) and the Shopify discount IDs they correspond to.
• Billing status — your active subscription plan and the Shopify recurring-charge ID, so we know whether the app should be active for your store.
• Operational logs — minimal request and error logs (timestamps, route, shop domain, error type) for troubleshooting. Logs are not used for profiling or analytics.

We do not collect customer personal data. Solo Discount does not request any Shopify Protected Customer Data access scopes. The Shopify Function that powers the discount logic receives only product and variant pricing information — no customer identifiers, no order history, no contact details.

How we use data

• To run the discount function you configured.
• To administer your subscription through the Shopify Billing API.
• To respond to support requests you send us.
• To investigate errors and keep the app working. Logs are inspected only when we’re troubleshooting a specific issue.

We do not sell data, share it with advertisers, or use it to profile merchants or their customers.

Where data lives

Solo Discount is hosted on Hetzner servers located in Hillsboro, Oregon, USA. App data is stored in a database on the application server and continuously replicated to Cloudflare R2 for point-in-time backups. Shopify itself remains the authoritative store for your discounts, products, orders, and customer records — we mirror only the configuration Solo Discount needs to do its job.

For merchants in the EU, UK, or Switzerland, shop metadata is transferred to the United States. We rely on appropriate safeguards — such as Standard Contractual Clauses or participation in the EU-US Data Privacy Framework, where applicable to our subprocessors — to ensure your data receives a level of protection consistent with GDPR.

Retention and deletion

Your data is kept for as long as the app is installed on your store. When you uninstall, Shopify fires an app/uninstalled webhook; we respond by disabling your discounts and scheduling your records for deletion within 48 hours. Backup snapshots that include your data are rotated out within 30 days.

Shopify’s GDPR webhooks

Solo Discount implements the three mandatory Shopify GDPR webhooks:

• customers/data_request — we receive and acknowledge the request, then respond directly to the merchant with any relevant records (in practice, this is usually empty since we do not store customer data).
• customers/redact — acknowledged; no action required, since no customer data is stored.
• shop/redact — triggers permanent deletion of all Solo Discount records associated with the shop, typically within 48 hours of the webhook.

Your rights

If you’re in the EU, UK, or another jurisdiction with an equivalent framework, you have the right to access, correct, export, and delete the personal data we hold about you, and to object to or restrict how we process it. You can exercise any of these rights by emailing [email protected]. We respond within 30 days.

Merchants who require a Data Processing Agreement (DPA) under GDPR or UK GDPR can request one at [email protected].

Subprocessors

We rely on the following providers to deliver Solo Discount:

• Shopify — platform, OAuth, webhooks, billing, and checkout execution of the Solo Discount Function.
• Hetzner — application and database hosting in Hillsboro, Oregon, USA.
• Cloudflare (R2) — encrypted backups.

Cookies

The embedded Shopify admin app uses strictly necessary session cookies to authenticate requests inside the admin iframe. We do not set tracking or analytics cookies on the public site, and we do not run third-party analytics.

Children

Solo Discount is a tool for businesses and is not directed at children. We do not knowingly collect data from anyone under 16.

Changes to this policy

If we update this policy, we’ll change the “Last updated” date at the top of the page. Material changes will also be announced in the app’s admin interface.
